A BS 4142 Noise Impact Assessment is necessary for industrial and manufacturing operations, mechanical and electrical installations, loading and unloading of goods and materials, or mobile plant and commercial vehicle usage. This assessment helps confirm that your activities will not have an adverse impact on the local environment, including residents, community spaces, or nearby businesses. A BS 4142 noise assessment typically involves the following steps:

We will visit the site to perform a comprehensive 24-hour environmental noise survey, assessing the background noise levels at a representative location in the surrounding area in accordance with BS 7445 "Description and Measurement of Environmental Noise". Our noise measurements capture important noise metrics in both dBA and octave band levels, including LAeq, LMAX, L10, and L90 parameters.
We will agree with the local authority the proposed location for the sound level meter, its proximity to the nearest / most appropriate noise-sensitive location, and collect noise levels from the manufacturer to gain a complete understanding of the potential noise impact.
We will perform BS4142:2014 calculations to ensure that the proposed equipment noise levels comply with the necessary guidelines. If needed, we will recommend suitable noise mitigation measures.
